Banana Slug Math!

Banana slug math - complete with tiny
edible banana (slugs)!  Yum!

Give the problem a try and then ask a third
grader how he or she solved it.

A banana slug was at the bottom of a hole 7 feet deep.
It started climbing to the top.  Each day it climbed up
3 feet, but at night when it slept it slid down 2 feet.
How many days did it take the banana slug to get out of the hole?

STOP!
If you plan to try to solve the problem, do not go
any further or you will see the answer!

Continue on to see how some students solved the problem.
