BrainPOP!

Our "BrainPOP" Journals!
Our BrainPOP journals will be used to answer prompts, take notes, and
make connections following each BrainPOP video viewing.  The characters in the
videos (Tim the student and Moby the robot) make learning come alive!

What is BrainPOP?
BrainPOP is an educational site focused on introducing
children (of all ages!) to a variety of topics through short animated
videos.  Subjects include English, Math, Social Studies, Science,
Engineering & Technology, History, Arts & Music, and Health.
These videos range from two to five minutes in length, and
are structured to make learning engaging, in depth, and fun!
Students are using them in class as a way to build on vocabulary,
"working memory," and comprehension skills; note-taking strategies;
test-taking practice through built-in quizzes; and as resource for choosing
future research topics. BrainPOP will be used to support student learning in
the areas of nonfiction reading and writing skills throughout the year.
Access to these videos is through Molly's subscription to the site,
but a free "Featured Movie" is posted daily.

Busy, Focused Third Graders!

Third graders wrote letters to themselves.  They answered questions about
school, friends, and life in general.  The letters have been set aside and will
be given back to the students at the end of the school year!  It's  such fun to look back!

Our First Day in Third Grade!!!

Check out some of these photos!
We were busy, busy, busy today -
and that was just getting all of the basics taken care of!

Thumbs Up for The Gang!

 Our Very Happy Principal!

Third Graders will be learning about chickens.  During
this mini-unit, students will work on research skills,
non-fiction reading, and writing skills.  They will also
employ art and sewing skills as well!

Bulletin board created by Molly!
Cloud bubbles:
"Third Graders are all cooped up!"
and
"Now they're little chicken tenders!"
More to come on this bulletin board!
Watch it evolve!

The reading corner was busy!

Nora and Paige work on their name cards!

 A little R & R for Eli!

Snack Time!

Our very special biking visitor!
Superintendent Dr. Burrows rode his bike to each
of the elementary schools in ACSU today.  He stopped in
each classroom to personally greet everyone!
Impressive!

A long awaited "PIZZA" lunch!  YUM!

Sharing from summer vacation!
Nora shared about her three weeks at camp.
She was one of two young ladies to climb four mountains.
She climbed Bare (1,198 ft.), Rattlesnake(1,185 ft.),
Sugar Loaf (1,467 ft.), and Poko (2,293 ft.)!
Bravo, Nora!

Paige won third place in horse grooming and
showmanship at the Addison County Field Days!
Yahoo for you, Paige!
She also shared a picture of her brother riding a
go-cart that her family bought!

Master gardener Carter brought in a beautiful
bouquet of zinnias from his garden.  He planted and
tended them himself!  Beautiful, Carter!

Molly shared a wooden turtle that can be used
as an instrument.
It was from her childhood!

Jack shared about going to two Red Sox games.
The second one was a complete surprise, just
days ago in Boston!!!
GO SOX!

Eli shared "The Lost Hero," one of the many books he
read over the summer.  Eli said, "I was bored the other
day and I just found this book on the bottom shelf of
the shelves where we keep books.  So I decided to
read it."  Keep on reading, Eli!

John shared his i-phone on which he plays several games.
Some of his favorites are Diamond Dash and Pac-Man!

Mrs. Giles shared shells from Cape Cod.  A favorite
are the knobbed-whelk shells that are in
whelk egg cases.  They are so very small.

Eliot shared about his family's trip to Spain.  He loved his
cousin's house and the two dance parties that were
held there.  He also shared that his brother saw a
scorpion! Yikes!!!

Naomi shared the horseshoe she found at
her horse camp.  She said the horse farrier had
been at the horse farm recently and she thought
it may have been from his visit.  Enjoy the luck
that horseshoe will bring you, Naomi!
