Snow Removal Makes for Great Snow Fort Building!!!

Third graders loved the new snow chunks because they were
much needed for the snow chunk fort!

Below are some of the jobs people in "Fort Town" do.
Eli:  Laborer (anything) and interior decorator
Jack:  Blacksmith and boulder collector
Paige:  Assistant Manager and boulder collector
Carter:  Sales person

Banana Slug Math!

Banana slug math - complete with tiny
edible banana (slugs)!  Yum!

Give the problem a try and then ask a third
grader how he or she solved it.

A banana slug was at the bottom of a hole 7 feet deep.
It started climbing to the top.  Each day it climbed up
3 feet, but at night when it slept it slid down 2 feet.
How many days did it take the banana slug to get out of the hole?

STOP!
If you plan to try to solve the problem, do not go
any further or you will see the answer!

Continue on to see how some students solved the problem.

B-I-N-G-O Night Profits!!!

Third graders helped organize, stack, and roll the
B-I-N-G-O bucks!  Then 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th graders,
and some adults estimated how much money was
made on B-I-N-G-O night!
A cool $777.10 was taken in!
Thanks to all who helped out by sending in prizes, food
for the concession, and/or attending the event!

Adult Category:  Mrs. Hackett's guess ($740) was the closest. Sorry Donna :-(

Student Category: 1st place: Third grader Naomi ($905)
2nd place: Sixth grader Kate ($600)

Piglet "Palace" Models!

Third graders continued their work with area and perimeter
by making models of piglet pens.

They used a 1:12 ratio.  1" represented 12" or 1'

Appropriate tools were utilized to precisely measure
lengths and height for fencing for each model.
Students did a terrific job building their models to scale!
