Students spun a spinner that told them how many: 1, 2, or 3
then they spun a spinner that told them what unit fraction: 1/8, 1/4, or 1/2
Example:
First spinner: 2
Second spinner: 1/8
They then had to fill in the fraction bar line and
write a multiplication equation representing those spins.
2 X 1/8 = 2/8 or 1/4
Which unit fractions would get to the finish first - the
eighths, fourths, or halves?
Students answered questions like
1. How many one-eighths would you need to make a whole?
2. How many eights would you need to make a half? a fourth? etc.
Third graders really get fractions!
