Third Graders Make Teachers Proud!

First:  Third graders get to work on finding the total number
of items in various arrays!  They solve them in several ways.

They chose arrays from Harry's Pet Store.

Next:  Third graders share awesome mathematical thinking and
strategies!  They use number lines, repeated addition, traditional
multiplication algorithms, skip counting, counting by 2's, 5's, etc. and
even the distributive property to find the number of items in various arrays.

Making use of the distributive property.
5 X 8 = 40
decompose the 8 into 5 + 3,
Now 5 X 5 = 25 and 3 X 5 = 15
and 25 + 15 = 40
