Third graders read "Owney the Mail Pouch Dog"

They remembered reading this book in kindergarten  

and very fondly remembered getting to take a

stuffed Owney home for the night and putting

tags on him.  

This time third graders thought

about the ways Owney and mail traveled in 1880-90's.

Stage, Rail, Boat!

They then played a game where they had to move 20 

bags of mail around the country in a given number of days!

In 1897, a taxidermist preserved Owney and 
he now resides at the Smithsonian Institute
in Washington D.C.

Engineer of the Week - Jack!

January 27-31, 2014

Jack's paper plate mouse (drawn and given to him by a nurse on 

the day he was born) became the head on his preschool T-shirt!

Jack brought in his old baby blanket, a mouse

face drawn on a paper plate, his preschool t-shirt, 

a family "Coat of Arms" pin, a gold medallion, 

the cozy, cute stuffed elephant he got from his sister

before he was even born, a signed baseball, a nifty shield 

from his grandparents, and lots of very cute, funny photos.

BNSF Railway "Virtual Tour" Scavenger Hunt!

Ferroequinologists went on a scavenger hunt to learn about 

BSNF Railway.  Ask a third grader about the train cars and 

what freight is carried on this railway.
