Literature Circles
Students read two chapters at a time. They then meet
for a discussion of the chapters read. All students participate
in the discussion in a variety of ways.
Ask a third grader about "Literature Circle" jobs.
For chapters three and four, Paige was "summarizer," Eliot was "word wizard,"
and John was "discussion director." Nora, Carter, Naomi, Eli, and
Jack were "optional," meaning they could choose a way to share something
that happened in the two chapters. They decided to perform a "reader's
theater." They did an excellent job, especially considering they only had about
25 minutes to practice it. Impressive!
